Summerland Drags Media Release
Embargoed until 3:00pm 17-07-10
17-07-2010
Summerland Drags promoter David Lander has announced that additional final planning is needed to gain consent to the drag racing Development Application before Richmond Valley Council.
David explained that whilst Richmond Valley Council has performed its dual role commendably as the consent authority and as the owner of the Casino Aerodrome, the increasing popularity of Northern Rivers drag racing has created extra planning requirements.
“We need extra time to get it right. So in the best interests of drag racing fans, competitors and sponsors, as well as the broader community, I have decided to postpone the previously scheduled thirty first of July event until early Spring,” David said.
“A little bit of pain now to lock in four annual events for the next ten years or so will be well worth it. Think of it as an anti-flu injection.”
“Competitors who have nominated for the July event will of course be automatically listed as competitors for the next event, or if they choose, the late Spring event.”
“Drag racing fans, competitors and sponsors can express their support for drag racing in Casino by writing to the General Manager, Richmond Valley Council, Locked Bag 10, Casino 2470.
Quote DA number 420/2010, or via email on council@richmondvalley.nsw.gov.au”
David went on to say that new event dates will be announced next month.
“As soon as I know, the community will know,” he added.

We
are staffed entirely by volunteers and focused
on our community's musical preferences.
We mostly play tracks from the Top 10 charts of 1955 to the present and any request without four-letter words.
We have worked hard and long to create and maintain a peoples' station.
At the heart of every listener and every member is music, music, music - rock 'n' roll, country, old-time, dance, pop, blues and the classics.
Resident specialist Dr Music uses her extensive knowledge and international links to prescribe and dispense good musical medicine, answer inquiries and track down peoples' requests.
There are two specialist music programmes which, in the Richmond Valley, can only be heard on 88.9 FM: My Generation and The Time Zone Top 40.
My Generation focuses on the music, news and culture of the late '70s to the early '90s.
The Time Zone Top 40 is the Top 40 of 40 years ago, to the day, thanks to the efforts of our friend David Kent. Check out his website: Australian Chart Books
We also feature the hit comedy series, How Green Is My Cactus, which you can hear twice during breakfast and again during drive-time, Monday to Friday. Other non-musical programmes include the Castlereagh Line and Dad and Dave.
And of course we run a first-class International/National/State news service - Australian Independent News.
We place lots of importance on other community organisations. Announcements about their activities are welcome and are free-to-air.
Local emergencies, such as fire, storms, floods and good, or earth-shattering news, such as the discovery of life elsewhere in the universe, take priority over normal program content. The Richmond Valley has very few emergencies and aliens are rare, so music rules.
Community radio is regulated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, the same people who check out commercial radio. The rules are a little different for community radio. We must not advertise nor indulge in cash for comment arrangements, but sponsorship is OK.
To us, sponsorship is more than just OK! Broadcasting is a fairly expensive business. Sponsorship is our main source of income! The pay-off for sponsors is value-for-money promotion in the marketplace and recognition by listeners that the sponsor is supporting a worthy community organisation.
If you would like to participate as a sponsor, member or a friend of the station, check out the sponsor/member/friend links on this page. You will be made most welcome.
If you would prefer to be just a listener, your participation is still very valuable. Stay tuned and request your favorite music as often as you like. It's your radio station. It's your free, 50,000-track juke-box! You are important to us because the bottom line for any radio station is : "Who's out there?"
